"Following the explosion in Jersey, the death of two Portuguese is confirmed, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deeply regrets", said a source from the ministry led by João Gomes Cravinho.

According to the same source, “monitoring of the situation and support for the families of the victims is being ensured through the Consulate General of Portugal in London and the Honorary Consulate in Jersey”.

The last balance of the explosion and collapse of a residential building in Saint Helier, island of Jersey, this Sunday, indicated that the accident caused five deaths.

After two days of searching, the authorities admitted that there were no survivors, although four people remained missing.

A gas leak is the presumed cause of the accident, which happened on Saturday at 04:00 local time (05:00 in Lisbon), in the capital of the island. CCTV footage showed a fireball enveloping the three-story beachfront building, followed by thick smoke.
