Doubts regarding the Chinese Formula 1 race due to take
place in April appear to have opened the door for the Algarve to welcome back
the sport next year.
According to media reports Formula 1 organisers are looking
for a race to replace the Chinese Grand Prix, which was scheduled for April 16
next year, and according to Sport TV there are advanced negotiations with
Portugal, which could re-enter the calendar.
It is reported that the decision will be taken by 9 December,
the date of the World Council of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). However, one of the main problems facing the
Portimão circuit will be the need to change the 6 Hours of a World
Endurance Championship (WEC) event scheduled for the same date.
China will miss out on a Formula 1 race for the fourth year
in a row, confirmed today by the FIA and reported by SKY News, due to its rules against Covid-19 and
the 24-race calendar, which has Australia on April 2 and Azerbaijan on 30.
