According to a note from the office of the councillor responsible for the area of ??Social Rights, Manuel Grilo, the last count made by the entities involved in the response to the homeless population in city ??of Lisbon indicates “a total of 356 people who are homeless (living on the street)”.
The majority of homeless people are men, 309, and 46 are women. In the data released by the municipality, the gender of one of the people appears identified as “other”.
According to the data released, the average age of homeless people is 47 years old, of which 356, about half (146) are between 46 and 60 years old and 112 are between 31 and 45 years old.
One of the homeless people is over 81 years old and six are between 71 and 80 years old. Forty homeless people are aged between 20 and 30 years old, 112 are aged between 31 and 45 years old and one is over 18 and under 20. It was not possible to determine the age of 11 people.
Regarding their place of birth, 92 people are from Lisbon, 79 from other municipalities, 23 are from European Union countries, 46 are from Portuguese-speaking African countries, seven from Brazil and 39 were from other countries, and it was not possible to ascertain the naturalness of 70 people.
As for the time people are living on the street, 21 people have been homeless for over 10 years, 39 have been on the street for more than five years and 111 for more than a year.
Of the 140 people who have become homeless in the past 12 months, 28 have been on the street for less than 30 days, 69 for less than six months and 43 between six months and a year. It is unknown how long 45 people have been on the street.
