The number of deaths is the lowest since 25 October, when 19 deaths were recorded.

The DGS bulletin reveals that 1,201 patients are hospitalised (77 less than on Tuesday), the lowest figure since 19 October, when 1,174 people were hospitalised.

Portugal has 283 patients in intensive care today (29 less than Tuesday), the lowest since 30 October, when 275 people were in these units.

The data also indicate that 3,961 people have been reported recovered, bringing the total number of recovered since the start of the pandemic in Portugal to 738,179.

Active cases in Portugal continue to see a decrease, with 57,152 counted today, down 3,341 since Tuesday.

Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 16,617 Covid-19-associated deaths and 811,948 cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.

Health authorities have 21,175 contacts under surveillance, 921 fewer than the previous day, with the downward trend continuing since 30 January.

According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, Portugal currently has 1,055,085 people vaccinated against Covid-19: 757,663 with the first dose and 297,422 with the second dose.

Of the 22 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, seven occurred in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, five in the Centre region, five in the North region, two in Alentejo, two in the Algarve and one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 291 new infections have been reported, accounting so far for 307,517 cases and 6,988 deaths.

The North region now has 136 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and, since the start of the pandemic, has recorded 327,917 cases of infection and 5,268 deaths.

In the Centre region, 121 more cases have been registered, accumulating 115,832 infections and 2,962 deaths.

In Alentejo 13 more cases were reported, totalling 28,675 infections and 961 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

The Algarve region has 13 new cases reported today, totalling 20,267 infections and 346 deaths.

In the Autonomous region of Madeira, 69 new cases have been registered, accounting for 7,935 infections and 64 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

For the Autonomous Region of the Azores, the Directorate-General for Health explains that today's report reflects a decrease in the total number of cases in the Azores, due to the need to transfer a case to the respective region of occurrence, having registered zero cases.

The Azores accounted for 3,805 cases since the beginning of the pandemic and 28 deaths.

The confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections registered between 20 and 59 years old.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 367,471 men and 444,194 women in Portugal, according to data from the DGS.

Of the total number of deaths, 8,714 were men and 7,903 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 10,981 were people aged over 80, 3,515 were aged between 70 and 79 and 1,470 were aged between 60 and 69.
