In the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS it is pointed out that 613 people with Covid-19 are hospitalised today, 46 more than on Sunday, 136 of which in intensive care units, eight more.

This is the highest number of hospital admissions since 29 March, when 623 patients were hospitalised.

The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo area has 54 percent of the total of new infections, concentrating 802 new cases.

The five deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (3), in the North region (1) and in the Algarve region (1).

The data released by the DGS also show that there are over 705 active cases, totalling 38,829 and that 773 people were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 834,625 recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,117 people have died in Portugal and 890,571 cases of infection have been registered.

The number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities is over 1,142, totalling 59,442.

The incidence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in mainland Portugal continues to grow, currently standing at 231 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as well as in the entire territory, which is now 224.6, reveal official data.

On Friday, the incidence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in mainland Portugal was 194.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the value for the entire territory stood at 189.4.

According to the joint bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), the transmissibility index (Rt) rose from 1.16 to 1.19 throughout the national territory and from 1.17 to 1.20 in mainland Portugal.

The transmissibility index and the 14-day incidence data are updated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 802 new infections, counts so far 345,840 cases and 7,278 deaths.

In the Northern region there are now 314 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 348,379 cases of infection and 5,369 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 93 more cases, with a total of 123,057 infections and 3,027 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 24 more cases were reported, totalling 31,307 infections and 973 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that 203 cases were registered, totalling 25,673 infections and 366 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 15 cases, totalling 9,984 infections and 70 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores today have 32 new cases, accounting for 6,331 cases and 34 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 8,986 were men and 8,131 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,234 were people over 80 years old, 3,655 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,542 were between 60 and 69 years old.

As for infections, the bulletin reveals that of the total of 890,571 people infected since the beginning of the pandemic, 50,127 were between 0 and 9 years old, 84,701 between 10 and 19 years old, 130,925 between 20 and 29 years old, 129,535 between 30 and 39 years old, 147,908 between 40 and 49 years old, 130,101 between 50 and 59 years old, 80,956 between 60 and 69 years old, 57,310 between 70 and 79 years old and 70,520 over 80 years old.
