Running until 12 July, "the campaign aims to alert drivers to the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol," according to a PSP statement sent to Lusa News Agency.

"One in four drivers killed in road accidents has a blood alcohol rate equal to or greater than 0.5 g/l, and of these drivers, three in four have a rate equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l" , PSP adds.

This action, within the scope of the National Strategic Plan for Road Safety 2020, intends to encourage the adoption of safe behaviour on the road.

The PSP clarifies that the National Inspection Plan provides for awareness campaigns to be carried out at the same time of inspection operations in places where infractions regularly occur that represent an increased risk for the occurrence of accidents.

ANSR, PSP and GNR stress that driving under the influence of alcohol is a risk to everyone's safety, because "with a blood alcohol rate of 0.5 g/l, the risk of suffering a fatal accident doubles" and “accidents resulting from driving under the influence of alcohol are particularly severe”.
