“There are 12 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection reported in Madeira, so the region now accounts for 9,686 confirmed cases of Covid-19”, reads the bulletin on the epidemiological situation in this archipelago. DGS adds that of the new cases, four are imported (two 2 from the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, one from South Africa and one from Brazil), with the remaining (08) being locally transmitted. According to data from the Madeiran health authorities, today the region reports "80 active cases, of which 17 are imported and 63 are of local transmission". These infected are undergoing isolation, with 13 in a hotel unit and the rest in their own accommodation.

DGS points out that the units dedicated to covid-19 at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, in Funchal, have not had any patients hospitalized for several days. It also mentions that 24 situations are being evaluated related to travellers identified at the airport, contacts with positive cases or other reported situations. In active surveillance of contacts with positive cases, there are 375 people and 24,597 travellers using the MadeiraSafe application, he says.

The region now has 10 more recovered patients, totaling 9,533 people cured of Covid-19, and maintains 73 deaths associated with the disease. In Portugal, since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,112 people have died and 889,088 cases of infection have been registered, according to the Directorate-General for Health.
