In a statement, the GNR states that the discovery of this space, in the town of São Julião do Tojal, was made following a complaint, with the military travelling to the site and finding about fifty people slaughtering animals, predominantly goats.
"The military found that more than 30 animals had already been slaughtered, and that, at the place of slaughter, there were no sanitary conditions, nor were the rules for the slaughter of animals being respected, especially with regard to animal welfare”, according to the note.
The GNR also adds that the Municipal Veterinary Medical Office of Loures was contacted to proceed with the “correct treatment and referral” of the animals' remains.
The person responsible for the slaughter was appointed as an accused and the facts were referred to the Judicial Court of Loures.
