But this is all irrelevant because, although the Algarve had well over a million tourists last summer, there was no Covid spike in the Autumn. It would also have been difficult for the British to bring any new strain as it didn’t appear until the end of the year and that came from Brazil and South Africa. Not unexpectedly and in common with other countries, this latest spike was caused by families and friends travelling and mixing over the Christmas period and is still most prevalent in the north of the country.
I agree that wearing masks indoors or when other people are in close proximity is the responsible thing to do but to try and blame one nationality is ludicrous when there have hardly been any British tourists in the Algarve for five months.
