According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) today 597 people are hospitalised with Covid-19, 24 fewer than on Wednesday. In intensive care units there are 127 people, eight fewer than on Wednesday.

Most of the new cases (500) were registered in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, followed by the North, with 442 new infections.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (3), in the North region (1), in the Centre region (4) and in the Algarve (2).

Regarding the ages of the victims, six were over 80 years old, two between 70 and 79 years old, one between 60 and 69 years old and the other between 50 and 59 years old.

Data released by the DGS also show that there are 425 fewer active cases, totalling 39,240, and that 1,823 people were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 995,051 recovered.

New confirmed cases of infection are recorded in greater number among young people between 20 and 29 years old, with 261 more cases in the last 24 hours.

The following are the age groups between 30 and 39 years old (230 new cases), between 40 and 49 years old (212 new cases), between 10 and 19 years old (205) and up to nine years old (126).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,836 people have died in Portugal and 1,052,127 cases of infection have been registered.

The region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley has so far accounted for 407,536 cases and 7,624 deaths.

In the Northern region, 404,544 cases of infection and 5,524 deaths have been registered since the start of the pandemic.

In the Central region, 214 more cases were registered in the last 24 hours, with a total of 140,505 infections and 3,114 deaths.

In the Alentejo, another 83 cases were reported, totalling 37,933 infections and 1,010 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 133 new cases, accumulating 41,067 infections and 451 deaths.

The autonomous region of Madeira has registered 23 new cases, totalling 11,922 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have 13 new cases, accounting for 8,620 cases and 41 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 565,626 women and 485,758 men, show data from the DGS, according to which there are 743 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,349 were men and 8,487 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 11,645 were over 80 years old, 3,818 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,624 were between 60 and 69 years old.
