A 53-year-old fisherman, who was on board the fishing boat "Toni Pires" and suffered an accident, was rescued by the Portuguese Air Force's EH-101 helicopter on 9 December.
The operation was coordinated by the Navy, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Centre (MRCC Lisboa).
The vessel, which was sailing around 10 nautical miles, or around 20 kilometres, south of Portimão, made a request for help, which reached the MRCC Lisboa via the 112 platform, reporting that one of the crew had a broken hip.
CODUMAR was immediately informed and made an assessment of the victim's condition, considering the situation to be an urgent medical rescue.
The rescue was carried out by the helicopter, which transported the injured man to a hospital, where he landed at 15.15.
