Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has recorded a total of 3,971 deaths and 264,802 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, with 84,004 cases now active, 62 more than on Sunday.

Regarding hospital admissions, the DGS epidemiological bulletin reveals that 3,241 people are hospitalised (90 more than on Sunday), 498 of whom are in intensive care (seven more in the last 24 hours).

DGS indicates that of the 74 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 35 occurred in the North region, 20 in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 10 in the Centro region, two in the Alentejo and one in the Algarve.

According to the bulletin, 55.8 percent of new cases are located in the North region, which recorded over 2,258 infections in the last 24 hours, totalling 137,621 cases of infection and 1,857 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, a further 1,052 new cases of infection were reported, with 90,035 cases of infection and 1,447 deaths so far.

In the Central region there were 490 more cases of infection, with 25,503 and 509 dead.

In the Alentejo, 68 new cases were registered, totalling 5,237 and 98 dead.

The Algarve region has today reported 126 more cases of infection, totaling 4,805 cases and 43 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 31 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, adding up to 810 infections detected and 15 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Madeira registered 19 new cases in the last 24 hours, accounting for 791 infections and two deaths.

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 116,915 men and 143,055 women in Portugal, according to the declared cases.

Of the total fatalities, 2,056 were men and 1,915 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in people over 80 years of age.
