Since 8 November Portugal had not had a death toll below 50, the day on which 48 deaths were recorded.
As for the number of cases, today's figure is close to that recorded on 13 October, when data indicated 1,208 cases of infection.
The epidemiological bulletin of the DGS also reveals that 2,613 patients are hospitalised (154 less than on Wednesday), the lowest number since 8 November, of which 536 in intensive care, 31 less, a number that had not been recorded since 8 January.
The data released today also indicates that 2,659 people have been reported recovered, bringing the total number of recovered people since the start of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020 to 711,713.
For 25 consecutive days, the number of recovered has exceeded the number of new infections.
Active cases in Portugal continue to see a decrease, with 73,848 active cases today, down 1,548.
Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 16,185 Covid-19-associated deaths and 801,746 cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.
Health authorities have 57,694 contacts under surveillance, down 5,708 from the previous day, with the downward trend continuing since 30 January.
According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, Portugal currently has 752,317 people vaccinated: 497,040 with the first dose and 255,277 with the second dose.
