In a statement, the National Maritime Authority explains that a "merchant ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands collided, during the afternoon of 31 March, with the south pillar of the 25 de Abril Bridge, while navigating in the Tagus River, having caused no victims nor apparent structural damage to the bridge.
The alert was received at 5pm, and following the incident, the vessel anchored "next to the 25 de Abril Bridge". A team from the Capitania do Porto de Lisboa inspected the vessel to look for possible structural damage.
However, the note does not state whether there was considerable damage to the vessel.
The case has been handed over to the Maritime Police.
