Bid to avoid summer visitor quarantines "at all costs"

Portugal will do its best to avoid visitors having to quarantine on arrival this summer, its secretary of state for tourism said, as Europe moves towards adopting a COVID-19 passport.

Tourism-dependent Portugal holds the rotating EU presidency and is responsible for negotiating the new pass with member states. It would allow a freeing up of international travel, despite the bloc’s sluggish vaccination campaign and the risks posed by new coronavirus variants.

Since the start of the pandemic, hotel revenues fell 74% while domestic and foreign tourists slumped 71%.

Vaccine Passport will mean you will forever be a slave to your phone. If they adopt this, Portugal economy will be absolutely decimated.

I would much rather quarantine. Not sure if I can accept taking a swab up my nose risking a brain infection. And I will never take poison because of terror threat of a "vaccine passport!".

As the Covid19 situation is in Europe now, it is no way that we can just open up for tourism.
I would destoy everything that we have achived last 6 months.
And throw us back into a new state of emergency.
Vaccine passport is the only option to let people travel into Portugal.

A problem is the peoples behaviour in general. And on vacation in particular. Then people get drunk. Don't care about anything. Hang around in large groups without distancing. In pubs, bars, restaurants and around pools. Excelent way to spread virus.

Some $ into the turism is nothing compared to the impact on the health care system and the normal peoples life.
