According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health (DGS), 866 people are hospitalised with Covid-19, 194 of which in intensive care units, from which two people left in the last 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 1,004 were registered in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (42.2 percent of the total), while 659 were diagnosed in the North region (27.7 percent).
Twelve of the deaths with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours were in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley area, four in the Algarve, one in the North and one in the Centre.
Portugal has today 44,646 active cases (552 less than on Thursday) and the number of people recovered increased to 920,278 (2,911 more). Under surveillance today are 67,958 contacts, 1,428 fewer than on Thursday.
Since the start of the pandemic, 982,364 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been confirmed and 17,440 people have died with Covid-19.
Of the infections in the last 24 hours, 209 occurred among children under 9 years old, 447 between 10 and 19 years old, 613 between 20 and 29 years old, 385 between 30 and 39 years old, 261 between 40 and 49 years old, 176 between 50 and 59 years old, 125 between 60 and 69 years old, 82 between 70 and 79 years old and 79 over 80 years old.
The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has so far counted 383,882 cases and 7,448 deaths.
In the North region, there have been 379,940 cases of infection and 5,447 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
In the Centre region, 267 more cases have been registered, accumulating 131,338 infections and 3,052 deaths.
In the Alentejo, 129 more cases were reported, totalling 34,421 infections and 984 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
In the Algarve region, the bulletin recorded 245 new cases, accumulating 34,224 infections and 399 deaths.
The Autonomous region of Madeira recorded 31 new cases, adding 10,803 infections and 72 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.
The Azores now has 42 new cases accounting for 7,756 cases and 38 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.
The new coronavirus has already infected at least 451,307 men and 530,388 women in Portugal, DGS data show, according to which there are 669 cases of unknown gender, which are under investigation, as this information is not provided automatically.
Of the total number of fatalities, 9,155 were men and 8,285 women.
The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
Of the total number of deaths, 11,409 were people aged over 80, 3,729 were aged between 70 and 79, and 1,581 were aged between 60 and 69.
As for infections, of the total 982,364 people infected since the start of the pandemic, 58,652 were under 9 years old, 99,285 between 10 and 19 years old, 153,857 between 20 and 29 years old, 145,672 between 30 and 39 years old, 161,154 between 40 and 49 years old, 137,654 between 50 and 59 years old, 93,391 between 60 and 69 years old, 59,970 between 70 and 79 years old, and 72,729 over 80 years old.
The incidence rate of new SARS-CoV-2 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days is 362.7 nationwide and 369.2 in continental Portugal. The transmissibility index (Rt), which estimates the number of secondary cases of infection resulting from a person carrying the virus, is 0.92.
The Rt data and the incidence of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days - indicators that make up the risk matrix for monitoring the pandemic - are updated by health authorities on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
