In the provisional data for August compiled by its study office, the Algarve Hotels and Tourist Enterprises Association (AHETA) highlighted the importance that the national market had in August, with an increase of more than 50 percent.

"The domestic market increased 50.8 percent and the foreign market decreased 58.6 percent compared to August 2019", revealed AHETA, giving as a basis for comparison the last year in which the market was not affected by the crisis in tourism created by the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.

August data also show, according to AHETA, that “in accumulated terms, since the beginning of the year, the occupancy of a room has registered an average decrease of 59.3 percent and the volume of sales a decrease of 54.8 percent compared to the same period of 2019”.

AHETA underlined that "the sales volume decreased 36.2 percent compared to 2019 and increased 10.7 percent compared to 2020", while the average occupation "increased 26.9 percent" compared to last year.

As for geographic areas, AHETA indicated that the decrease in occupation, compared to August 2019, varied between 24.6 percent in Portimão/Praia da Rocha and 11 percent in Faro/Olhão.
