“The new automatic warehouse in Almeirim represents an investment of €15 million euros and aims to double the storage capacity, increase the speed of dispatch, reduce the total stocks of finished products in the operations in Portugal and eliminate double transport, reducing the CO2 footprint [carbon dioxide] by about 1,000 tonnes per year,” the company announced in a statement.
With this new unit, Sumol+Compal now has over 12,000 square meters (m2) of storage with a capacity for 30,000 pallets.
The warehouse has equipment that will allow it to process more than 600 pallets per hour.
The new infrastructure is part of the investment plan of €45 million planned for the period 2019-2022.
The company also added that the centralisation of operations in Almeirim and the investment in technology will ensure “greater energy efficiency, which reaches a reduction of 50 percent in equipment consumption”.
