CP – Comboios de Portugal said in a statement that due to the "attractiveness" of the Douro Railway Line tourist tour, it will continue its commitment to the Historic Train, with the 2022 campaign already being prepared.
Between 5 June and 30 October of this year, 32 trips were made on Saturdays and Sundays between the stations of Peso da Régua and Tua, with more than 7,800 passengers taking the trip, corresponding to an average occupancy rate of 96 percent.
According to the company, of all the customers who took the tour, 90 percent were national tourists.
Despite the beginning of the campaign having taken place under certain restrictions, imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, CP stressed that the “demand reached levels higher than those registered in previous years”.
According to the company, in 2018 and 2019, 6,190 and 5,420 customers travelled on the Douro Historic Train, respectively. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the program was restricted.
The historic train tour on the Douro Railway Line started at the end of the 90's.
The train includes five wooden carriages, dating from the beginning of the 20th century and the steam locomotive, which travels between Peso da Régua (Vila Real district) and Tua (Bragança district), with a stop in the village of Pinhão.
The tour also includes a reception for customers, with regional dancing and singing, water distribution, Port wine and Régua sweets.
