These are mostly workers in non-standard or temporary employment, women, young people and employees with a lower level of education, who work mostly in small companies.
This was found in a report by the Labour Ministry’s Bureau of Statistics and Planning (GEP).
Another ostrich type of decision by an obtuse government! After the wide open door policy recently announced by the Portuguese Prime Minister on the unhindered acceptance by Portugal of Indian professionals, I wonder which future and meaningful jobs, if any, are left to the locals? Or, eventually, even to other European professionals?

Well, you don't need to worry about Indians, They're the CEOs of Twitter, Microsoft, IBM and many more.... Indian community is business minded English speaking community, which will definately bring diversity to businesses and they start lot of Startups to create Jobs....

Yes, true for the the rich and CEOs, but these are just a tiny minority who will never need to come and compete for work in Portugal! But, please go sightseeing or shopping in downtown Lisbon and you'll see why the majority of menial jobs and small businesses are now in the hands of southern and eastern Asians! They are younger and smarter, maybe! But they also benefit from subsidies and open door policies not available to the locals. Most, in clear contravention of the law, don't even speak Portuguese! At professional level, they will compete and undermine the locals undercutting their bids/proposals! It will be a repetition for worse of what happened when southeastern Europeans countries joined or celebrated agreements with the EU!

The watery and flavourless raspberries of nurseries around Odemira and Sao Teotonio are being picked by non (EU) Nationals. The fruit pickers leave families and children to make a buck to send home to their families, nothing is being spend here. They are bunk up (read get housing provided) with 16 or more to a T2. It's sad, both for these pickers as well as the local overwhelmed native population, the pollution that the Driscol (a.k.a. Monsanto branch) nurseries bring and for the nation in general. All for a bunch of watery berries. Imagine the stupidity of it all.
The anticipated flux of Indian and Moroccan labour, as history has proven in many other Western nations, will not solve the intended means. To make this work well one requires a tat bit more than a SEF registration, a lousy job at a berry farm and appalling housing conditions.
