The most recent update from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) places Portugal at level four, the highest level of alert given the current situation of Covid-19 in national territory.
In addition to being discouraged from travelling to Portugal, the main federal public health agency in the United States recommends that anyone who has to travel should have the complete Covid-19 vaccination.
“Due to the current situation in Portugal, even those with full vaccinations may be at risk of being contaminated and contaminating others with Covid-19 variants”, it reads.
Travellers from the United States are also advised to wear a mask and maintain a social distance in Portugal.
We had the firstvwave of " Brits " and the ' Yankees " seem like second wave .please don't come .stay in your USA .we really don't want you'll in hordes to change fabric if Portuguese society

In the mean time we're letting thousands cross our border illegally and our government does nothing to stop this. Is anyone checking if all these people are vaccinated or what kind of diseases they're bringing in? So instead lets not travel to Portugal because of risk of infection? Hypocrisy at its best.

Yet we have a higher hospitalization rate, case rate and rate per million and a much lower vaccination rate. Go figure....

Here is a classic case of the Pot calling the Kettle Black. We are living in both US & Portugal. Portugal's response to the Covid crisis was to inoculate as much of the public as quickly as possible. The people of Portugal responded by getting the shots. As opposed to the US where half the people fought against getting it largely due to the Politics and lack of response from the leaders when Covid first hit.
The result, at 88%, Portugal is the 3rd most fully vaccinated country on the planet. It is #5 as the overall vaccinated country.
The US is just at 60% fully vaccinated and sits at #62 on the fully vaccinated list.
This is from the NY Times World Vaccination list.
We are not just fully vaccinated, we we both got our Booster shot as soon as it was available. In the US we do not go out. When we do we wear masks just about everywhere. The US population is largely ignoring the Covid-19 issue. Portugal people mostly take it seriously and did what they had to do.
We feel Far safer in Portugal than in the USA. So much so we are applying for a Portugal residency Visa.
We want to live as long and happy as we possibly can. Portugal is safer than the US on so many levels it is not even a comparison. There are so many countries in seriously bad shape when it comes to Covid, it truly shocks me the US would make this kind of statement against Portugal when it has gone so far above and beyond to protect it's people.
My comment? Ignore what the US says are 'unsafe' countries and read the information readily available out there online and judge for yourself.

It’s embarrassing that the USA would make this designation. I live in Florida where Covid is apparently not a problem and people openly resist the vaccine due to politics. We should focus on the ignorance at home first and promote the success of countries like Portugal for their societal response to the pandemic. In any event, I will go to Portugal. Sorry to earlier comment or who asked us USA citizens to stay home… your economy needs us and we need you. It’s symbiotic and a fact of globalization. Deal with it.

I live in Florida.
I have all three shots and also had covid.
With the rate of vaccination in Portugal, I feel it is safer there than here.
My wife and I are going next week.
We are also trying to get D7 visas.

Tony B, to answer your question “Is anyone checking if all these people are vaccinated or what kind of diseases they're bringing in?” A propos your own country, the answer “yes”, bc Biden has kept “title 42”(which was implemented during Trump´s office) for adults while exempting children from this measure. Which is what is driving ppl in despair to drop their children at the border, hoping at least their kids will be safe from the dangers these ppl are fleeing from.
“The threat of violence has led many parents to send their children across the bridge unaccompanied because they are not subject to Title 42 when travelling alone. Once in the US, they are taken into the custody of US authorities and then the families hope they will be reunited with relatives already in the country.”(“In Mexico border camps, families “wait for the US to open””, 3/12/2021, Al Jazeera).
However, your main argument/criticism-the lower vax rate in US compared to Pt- makes sense.
