According to the public company Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), the international public tender for the project “Linha de Cascais – Via e Catenária” was published in the Diário da República on December 13 and foresees an investment of 36 million euros.
Under the contract, according to IP, the migration of the current electrification system of the Cascais Line, currently at 1500 V (volts), to 25 kV (kilovolts), is planned, "which will allow for harmonizing the operating conditions of this line with the rest of the National Railway Network and reduce the energy costs borne by CP with the operation of the service by more than one million euros annually”.
Great will this mean getting rid of the 1980’s style NYC subway cars and replacing them with S (surface style) cars like seen over Europe? Most even have toilet facilities.
