The measures were announced after the weekly meeting of the executive of Madeira, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition, held in Funchal.
According to resolution No. 52/2022, of 31 January, the contingency situation is in force between 00:00 on 01 February 2022 and 23:59 on 28 February 2022, having been declared for public health reasons with the aim of containing the pandemic.
The "adjustments" result from the end of the free weekly mass testing, which is no longer mandatory in Madeira since Tuesday, 1 February, and now only a certificate of complete vaccination or recovery from the disease is required to access most public and private venues and also to enter the territory of the autonomous region.
In case of incomplete vaccination, the citizen will have to present a negative rapid antigen test valid for one week at his own expense.
The rapid antigen tests remain free only for those who show symptoms of Covid-19, namely fever over 38 degrees.
Following the new measures, the Government of Madeira announced that it will release the epidemiological bulletin once a month, limiting the daily bulletin to the number of hospital admissions, admissions in Covid-19 units and intensive care units.
According to the most recent data from the Directorate-General of Health, the archipelago of Madeira, with around 250,000 inhabitants, has recorded a total of 66,037 confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection since the start of the pandemic and 167 deaths associated to the disease.
