According to a press release from the GNR, the operation will last until April 10 and is carried out as part of the annual planning of RoadPol, which is an organization created by the traffic police in Europe, with the aim of improving road safety and law enforcement on the roads.
At the end of 2021, GNR became a member of RoadPol, becoming part of its operational planning.
In the 2020-2022 strategy, RoadPol established four areas of action within the scope of road safety, which are roads, vehicles, users and speed.
As part of the “RoadPol - Seatbelt” operation, which begins on Monday, the GNR will carry out inspection operations, "with the aim of creating a safer road environment, through simultaneous intervention on the main causes of accidents, thus seeking to positively influence drivers, leading them to adopt behaviours that favour safe driving over risky behaviours, such as the use of seat belts and CRS".
In 2021, the GNR recorded a total of 69,186 accidents, resulting in 22,655 victims.
Last year, the GNR registered 20,159 infractions regarding the lack of use of seat belts and CRS.

GNR doing what they do best, chasing fines. Why arrest criminals if we can fine them over and over? Just the time the Portuguese need a bit of a lesson in living with too much money, lets take some of it from them.
