“Since the beginning of 2022, the year-on-year rate of change of the CPI has shown a significant acceleration, with the highest value since March 1993 having been recorded in April”, stressed the National Institute of Statistics (INE), specifying that, “ in April, this rate increased by 1.9 percentage points compared to March, the biggest difference between two consecutive months since January 1985, when there was an increase of 2.8 percentage points (from 21.3% in December 1984 to 24.1% in January 1985)”.
The classes that presented the highest changes in the last 12 months in April were those of 'food and non-alcoholic beverages', 'housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels', 'home accessories, domestic equipment and current maintenance housing', 'transport', 'communications', 'leisure, recreation and culture', 'restaurants and hotels' and 'various goods and services'.
