The mortality surveillance data, prepared based on the Information
System of Death Certificates (SICO), indicate that there was excess mortality
on almost every day of July, with the exception of the first two ( 1 and 2) and
the last three (29, 30 and 31).
The 14th of July (with 458 deaths) was the day with the
highest percentage of excess mortality (63.4).
On 12 days of July (between the 1st and 4th, between the
12th and 16th and on the 18th, 25th and 28th) records were broken for the
maximum mortality extremes: some dated from 2010, others from 2013 and others
from 2020.
Two weeks ago, the Directorate-General for Health (DGS)
revealed that Portugal had recorded an excess of mortality between the 7th and
18th of July, corresponding to 1,063 deaths attributed to the extreme
temperatures that occurred on the continent.
