The campaign, which will run until August 23, is part of the 2022 National Inspection Plan, according to a joint statement from the three entities, which stress that speeding is one of the main causes of road accidents and is responsible for more than 50% of registered infractions.
“In a hit-and-run, the probability of fatalities increases depending on the speed at which the vehicles travel. If a vehicle travels at 30 km/h, the probability of the consequences of being hit by a vehicle being fatal is 10%. Increasing the speed to 50 km/h, the probability becomes 80%”, says the statement.
The “Travel without haste” campaign will feature awareness-raising actions by the ANSR in mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Region of Madeira, in addition to inspection operations, by the GNR and the PSP, with a special focus on roads and with “high road traffic”.
The target is ZERO deaths ... they should begin with motorcycles and farm machines ,,, both with a lot of deaths and I don't remember any ticket to them .

Maybe start up this campaign for the highways, BEFORE the mass summer exodus to the Algarve begins. Sure would be nice if people understood the laws here. Maybe then I wouldn't have people flashing their lights and flicking me off for driving slightly over the speed limit in the far left lane. This place is impossible.

It might go without saying that I meant the far RIGHT lane. (Too accustomed to the opposite being the case in the UK.)
