During an
inspection in the fishing port of Matosinhos, it was verified that a fishing
vessel, which was in mechanical failure and moored in another fishing port, had
submitted a fish for sale at an auction, without having actually caught it.
A
66-year-old man was identified and a notice was drawn up for exceeding the
legally established catch limits by total allowable catches and quotas, this
infraction being punishable by a maximum fine of 37,500€.
The fish
was seized and sold at an auction, the value of the sale remaining at the
disposal of the process.
The
management of the anchovy quota allocated to Portugal is ensured through
measures aimed at the sustainable management of marine resources, involving the
participation and monitoring of associations and producer organisations
representing the sector, respecting scientific advice and ensuring a fishery
that contributes to improving the income from the activity with biologically
sustainable levels of exploitation.
