"We have greater difficulties than we have ever experience due to the lack of attendance because of covid and hiring difficulties," said João Bento, who was speaking at a parliamentary hearing in the Economy, Public Works, Planning and Housing Committee, on 6 September.

The head of CTT assured that, to overcome these difficulties, all consulates in Portuguese-speaking countries have already been contacted, as well as parish councils and town halls.

"I receive a daily report and, for the first time, the number of vacancies to be filled was below 80," he stressed.

In response to the MP's, the CEO of CTT also highlighted the voluntary opening of stores in all the councils.

On the other hand, he recalled that there are 570 CTT stores in Portugal, to which 1,800 agents and 5,000 'pay shop' agents must be added, stressing that there is no other network "with this type of proximity".

João Bento also mentioned that, between 2019 and 2021, despite the drop in revenue associated with mail and the respective profit margin of the company remaining at 17 percent, it was possible to increase revenues and the number of employees.
