“Only the minimum services decreed are being fulfilled. At
the moment there are large gaps between trains which, in our opinion, will
worsen throughout the day”, said Anabela Carvalheira, from the Federation of
Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS).
The trade unionist added that during peak hours the
necessary safety conditions will not be met due to the increase in the flow of
people to platforms and trains.
Metropolitano de Lisboa workers are today carrying out a
24-hour strike, from 00:00 to 24:00, for better working conditions and salary
increases.
The effects of the stoppage began to be felt on Monday
night, with the closure of all stations at 23:00, that is, two hours earlier
than usual.
Today, the metro will operate “from 6:30 am to 1:00 am, but
at 25% of normal traffic, with longer waiting times than usual since”,
indicated the company in a note published on its website.
The Lisbon Metro operates daily with four lines: Yellow
(Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa
Apolónia) and Red (Airport-São Sebastião). Normally, the metro runs between
06:30 and 01:00.
