According
to a report by Jornal de Notícias, in the city of Tui, on October 31, the 12.5-kilo bottle of butane gas cost €19.55, while the 11-kilo unit of propane was
sold for €17.20. On this side of the border, in Valença, the prices of the same
bottles are much higher: butane gas costs €27.66 and beta gas €28.44 (respectively,
8.11 and 11.24 euros more expensive than in Spain).
Jornal
de Notícias also mentions that many Portuguese choose to travel to the neighbouring
country to fill up their fuel tank and take gas bottles. Some Portuguese
customers even travel tens of kilometres to the Tui petrol station (noting that
"a bottle of gas [pays] for the trip").
"Those
who live in Valença don't use gas or fuel from there. The Portuguese all come
here to Tui", said one Portuguese resident.
Can you blame them?
