In a statement, the Faro territorial command of the GNR
indicated that one of the defendants, a 32-year-old woman, is suspected of
being involved in a hit and run which resulted in the death of a man, on
November 18, on the EN269, in Algoz, Silves.
The driver is said to have continued her journey “without
providing assistance to the victim, who ended up dying on the spot”.
The woman, indicted for the crimes of negligent homicide and
omission of assistance, was identified and made a defendant on Tuesday,
following an investigation by the Núcleo de Investigação de Crimes em Acidentes
de Viação (NICAV).
“During the investigation, it was possible to identify and
locate the vehicle, which had already been repaired, which led to its seizure
and the identification of the driver”.
Lagos accident
The other defendant is a 61-year-old man, who is suspected
of being the driver of a vehicle that collided with a bicycle and who “left the
scene without providing assistance” to the 54-year-old rider, who suffered
serious injuries.
According to the GNR, the accident occurred on 20 November,
on Estrada Nacional 125, in the municipality of Lagos, with the driver
identified and the vehicle being located a day later, following an
investigation initiated by the NICAV.
The man is indicted for the crimes of offenses to physical
integrity, negligence in a road accident, and omission of assistance.
Police operations were reinforced by the GNR Technical
Support Center (NAT) in Portimão, which carried out vehicle inspections.
The cases were sent to the courts of Silves and Lagos,
respectively.
