Portugal is well sought out for this year’s Easter holidays, ranking as one of the top destinations for not only the Portuguese but also for all Europeans seeking holidays for the festivities.
The warm climate, cultural richness, customs, and religious festivals, as well as the exquisite cuisine, great hotels and infrastructure, makes Portugal a popular destination for these Easter holidays. According to the Jetcost study, Portugal is the third most searched country on their website for spending the holidays, coming just after Spain and Italy, with Lisbon being the most popular destination for vacation. It ranks most popular amongst British, German, Italian and Dutch travellers, and second most sought-after for Spanish and French travellers.
Faro has also been a popular destination, ranking second in the most anticipated holiday locations for British and Dutch travellers, and attracting French, German, Italian and Spanish travellers.
The Portuguese islands of Madeira and Azores have also been highlighted as popular destinations. Madeira is the favourite of European tourists, attracting many Spanish, Italian, and German tourists, with Ilha do Pico, Island of Faial and Santa Maria attracting many tourists. Meanwhile, the Azores, specifically the island of São Miguel, is preferred by the French, English and Dutch.
On top of attracting many foreign travellers, the Portuguese population has also been planning their Easter holidays within the country, with seven Portuguese destinations ranking in the top 25 holiday destinations. São Miguel, Madeira, Porto, Lisbon, Terceira, Faro, and Porto Santo are the most researched locations for national tourists, following popular European destinations like Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam, London, Prague, Budapest, and Vienna.
Marketing Director from Jetcost, Ignazio Ciamolli, has said that it has been a record year for searches of Portuguese destinations for this Easter holiday and that it is “big news” that Portugal falls within popular tourist destinations worldwide.
