"Taking into
account the effects of the evolution of the average life expectancy at age 65
verified between 2021 and 2022 in the application of the formula, the normal
age for access to the pension in 2024 is 66 years and 4 months".
In addition, the same
diploma establishes that "considering the average life expectancy
indicator at age 65, verified in 2000 and in 2022, the sustainability factor
applicable to old-age pensions starting in 2023 is 0.8617".
The normal age for access to the pension, it should be noted, must be published in an ordinance of the member of the Government responsible for the area of solidarity and social security, in the second year immediately preceding the year to which it relates.
Although the Portuguese live very long, most in their 66 years and 4 months have no mental and physical conditions to be working, aren't agile enough or qualified. Retirement age and calculation for the pension should have in consideration present health conditions and annual declarations of income in detriment of social security discounts.
