According to the distributor Cinemundo, the animated short film by João Gonzalez, which is nominated for the Oscars, “becomes available for rent and purchase” from Sunday at the video club “of all national operators”, MEO, NOS, Vodafone and NOWO.
The film will also be available on Filmin and Rakuten TV streaming platforms and on Cinemundo's official website.
In a rare initiative for a short film, “Ice Merchants” premiered in cinemas on February 16, having since been seen by more than 7,500 spectators.
“Ice Merchants”, told only by drawn images and music composed by João Gonzalez, is co-produced by the Portuguese company Cola Animation with the United Kingdom and France. The animation is co-signed by João Gonzalez and Ala Nunu.
The film had its world premiere in 2022 at the Cannes Critics' Week in France, where it was awarded.
The 95th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday night in Los Angeles, California.
Also nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film are "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse", by Peter Baynton and Charlie Mackesy, "The Flying Sailor", by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby, " My Year of Dicks" by Sara Gunnarsdóttir and Pamela Ribon, and "An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It" by Lachlan Pendragon.
