Jill Biden arrives in Portugal as part of a six-day tour of the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, to promote the empowerment of women and young people, according to information released by her office.
On the trip, the first lady will participate in a royal wedding in Jordan (between Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah and Rajwa Khald Alseif), in addition to visiting Egypt, Morocco and Portugal.
In Lisbon, Jill Biden will be at the opening ceremony of the three-day celebrations to promote the art and artists that are on display at the official residence of the US ambassador to Portugal, Randi Charno Levine, and which will now be available to the public in a collection at the premises. from Universidade Católica, entitled "Celebrating Diversity: Democracy and Representation in Contemporary Art".
"The First Lady believes that supporting the world's youth is critical to our common future, with education, health and empowerment at the heart of it all," explained Vanessa Valdivia, spokesperson for Jill Biden, referring to the spirit of the trip.
In Egypt and Morocco, the first lady will meet with women and young people connected to educational projects with US investment.
In Portugal, Jill Biden opens the celebrations of the Art at Embassies program, which includes an exhibition that will give visibility to North American artists (including Sanford Biggers, Nick Cave; Deborah Kass; Maya Lin; Christopher Myers; Aliza Nisenbaum; Amy Sherald; Deborah Willis; Hank Willis Thomas) joined by Portuguese artists (Leonor Antunes, Vasco Araújo, Ângela Ferreira, Fernanda Fragateiro, Mónica de Miranda and Diana Policarpo).
The initiative of the US embassy in Portugal also includes debates on the role of art in diversity and democracies.
"The arts play an important role in diplomacy, highlighting our shared values and challenges and creating a safe space for discussion and debate around some of the most pressing social issues of our times," commented Randi Charno Levine in a statement.
What an odd way to promote women empowerment by starting the journey endorsing a muslim marriage, where society and religion denies a soul to women.
