With an average of 1,019 offenders being caught daily, data reported by NM has found that a new maximum speed was recorded in the capital during this period.
According to Lisbon City Council, a driver was caught driving at 240km/h. The offense was registered on Avenida Marechal Craveiro Lopes (Segunda Circular), next to the Repsol garage, an area where the speed limit is 80km/h.
This person deserves prison, a couple of weeks, a hefty fine, and have his/her car apprehended and auctioned. The proceeds should revert to the victims of these crazy and unconscious people.

240 is a ridiculous speed. In many countries this would get you a prison sentence, car seized and a loss of licence for a substantial period. The biggest blow would be the seizure and destruction of the car, irrespective of who owns it. This will lead people to not lend their vehicles to ‘friends’ who might be considered a bit maverick.

The German Autobahn comes to Lisbon! While 240 is perfectly legal on some stretches of the German highways (for now at least), I'm amazed someone on a local expressway should have gotten so confused as to mistake Lisbon for Germany ... Next question: What penalties do await said speed demon?

Most likely a local official, seemingly immune from prosecution and who was late for a meeting where he was due to receive/deliver a bride.
