The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve does not profess to know everything. It does, however, try to understand. Helping out when needed. ‘Marley’ started out as a small loveable puppy. His owner fell in love and took the little furry one home. Unfortunately, becoming larger. Filling his paws as we say. He spends 8-9 hours a day alone on the balcony of the apartment. Confessing openly that, she made a mistake, the lady would like to do the kind thing and have him re-homed. Needing big ‘Puppy Love’.

‘Marley’ needs a good loving home asap, as they say. He will be SNiP’ped when ready. But finding him a home is of prime importance. He is after all at that bonding stage. A good family dog. Burn off some of those wasted hours! Also on the list, is a rather unusual little dog. “We’ve nicknamed him ‘Estomar Tommy’. He’s probably only just two-yrs old.” Someone has built him a shelter and gets fed regularly looks happy enough. “But, one senses he could do with a proper home.” Jenny has met him and is determined to keep him safe at all costs. “Things could change!” ‘Tommy’ is a small ‘Podengo’ type dog. Good-natured and a happy playful canine pal. “There has to be a good home for him with someone!”.

ARA, fellow animal rescue friends with their shelter outside of Loulé have been busy with their re-homing work. João and Animal Rescue Algarve team took to the High School, meeting around 200 students and staff. They took a couple of their older canines with them. ARA’s team were proud to address the re-homing problems of older animals, also those with paws and legs missing. “No one gives up at ARA.” A couple of their abandoned dogs are amputees and one a paraplegic. The school eagerly learning about adoption and caring for animals. The importance of sterilisation. ARA’s target for re-homing is high. More than 1200 animals were re-homed between 2018 and early 2023.

Not forgetting ARA’s founder Sid Richardson’s pet cause. ‘Legacy for Pets’ Jenny and Anita of APAA have become supporters of the legacy scheme. When an owner dies or becomes unwell, the pet(s) left behind, need to be considered. Legacy allows for this to happen sooner, rather than later. Appointing a guardian and then ARA take care of the all-important business. Your pet(s) future!
