It is a stratovolcano buried 2km beneath the Wadden Sea. Now, the citizens of Friesland have set up the Stogef Foundation, which wants to develop geothermal heating for the nearby town of Bolsward. Water would be heated up by the volcano and then pumped over to use in the district heating systems. This would heat 7000 homes, helping with the local shift away from natural gas.
