Portuguese are asking for more invoices with taxpayer numbers, and, according to data available on the e-Fatura portal, more than 1,290 million have already been issued and communicated since the beginning of the year. This is a growth of 6.5% compared to the same period last year and Finance statistics also indicate that there are now more than 800 million invoices that are eligible to be deducted by the IRS.

According to a report by ECO, there were, in total, 1,298.3 million invoices with NIF issued to end consumers until September. That's 78 million more than in the first nine months of last year. Even so, the total number of invoices issued and communicated reached 4,549 million, meaning that only 28% had a taxpayer number.

Around half of these invoices relate to health expenses, according to Finance statistics presented in e-Fatura. The second largest category is accommodation, restaurants and similar, which accounts for 29% of invoices issued.
