De Winton’s golden mole was last scientifically documented in Port Nolloth, in 1936. There were no photographs of this blind mammal, and little information existed about its behaviour.

A little species of golden mole that has not been seen in almost 100 years was rediscovered in South Africa, thanks to the efforts of an intrepid band of conservationists and a sniffing dog.
