The final inflation data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) show a strong slowdown in inflation in 2023, compared to the previous year, but that is not the only news behind the numbers. This data will guide the increase in telecommunications prices from the three main operators from February 1st, which should be slightly lower than expected.
According to a report by ECO, Anacom, the communications regulator, had anticipated, based on inflation forecasts, that the update of monthly fees in 2024 could go up to 4.6%, information that ECO also mentioned when, in December, it revealed first-hand that MEO, NOS and Vodafone were already preparing these price increases. However, the average variation in the Consumer Price Index in 2023 was 4.3%, and this should be the increase that these companies will communicate to customers.
