According to the European Union Statistical Office (Eurostat), the median age of the European population increased from 42.2 years in 2013 to 44.5 years ten years later, on January 1st of last year.
In Portugal, the median age increased by 4.4 years between 2013 and 2023, being the country in which the median increased the most in a number of years.
Greece, Spain, Slovakia and Italy also recorded an increase in the median age of the population by four years.
Only Sweden (-0.1 years) and Malta (-0.4 years) lowered the median age by ten years.
