“We recorded 32 incidents between 00:00 and 08:00 am”, an ANEPC source told Lusa, of which eight were in the Porto Metropolitan Area.

Of the incidents recorded, 12 were on the road, but there were also fallen tree, landslides and floods, they said.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued some warnings until this morning when the "bad weather will begin to ease".

IPMA technicians predict generally very cloudy skies for mainland Portugal, with clouds decreasing from the afternoon onwards, especially in the South region.

IPMA also shares "Expect showers, which may at times be heavy, hail and accompanied by thunderstorms, especially in the coastal regions until the end of the morning, decreasing in intensity and frequency from the afternoon onwards."

They also expect snowfall above 800/1,000 meters in altitude, rising to 1,400 meters from the morning onwards, winds decreasing in intensity and strong sea agitation.

Given the forecast, IPMA activated orange snow warnings for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, Castelo Branco, Viana do Castelo and Braga.

Also because of the snow there are yellow warnings in the districts of Porto, Aveiro and Coimbra.

The sea disturbance, with waves that can reach 11 meters in height, led IPMA to “paint” the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga orange.

Temperatures are expected to vary between 3 degrees Celsius in Guarda and 19º in Faro, with maximums of 14º in Porto, 15º in Coimbra and 16º in Lisbon.

In Madeira, the north coast and Porto Santo are under yellow warning due to the unrest of the sea, with temperatures between 15 ºC and 22 ºC.

The IPMA anticipates periods of very cloudy skies, and showers, especially on the northern slopes and highlands of the island of Madeira, moderate wind and a small increase in maximum temperature in the highlands.

The Azores archipelago is also expected to experience an election Sunday with periods of very cloudy skies with open skies, becoming overcast, and some rain.

The temperature is expected to vary between a minimum of 13 ºC in Angra do Heroísmo, where a maximum of 18 ºC is expected, as well as in Ponta Delgada and Santa Cruz das Flores.
