In a statement, the Lisbon Metro reported that the 27 million passengers correspond to a 3 percent increase in demand compared to the first two months of 2019 and a 7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
“This data demonstrates a clear increase in demand and a tendency towards a strong recovery, which will hopefully result in a gradual return to normality at pre-pandemic levels in 2019”, indicated the company.
The carrier also mentioned that in 2023, the Lisbon Metro registered 161.8 million passengers, which represents an increase of 28.1 million in comparison to the previous year, “but with a reduction in demand of 11.9 million passengers compared to 2019”.
The company considers the upward trend in demand recorded over the last two years “reflects a scenario of recovery after the challenges faced during the pandemic”.
“Despite the 6.8percent reduction compared to 2019, the numbers indicate significant progress in the returning to normal demand for services”, concluded the Lisbon Metro.
