Based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the warning is classified as “Signal 6”, which means bad weather and corresponds to winds between 51 and 62 kilometres per hour.
“It is recommended that the owners of ships and vessels adopt the necessary precautions to ensure their safety”.
The captaincy also extended the strong wind warning until 06:00 on Thursday, recalling that the wind will be from the north and that the waves will be in the order five metres on the north coast and 1.5 metres on the south.
Due to this meteorological situation, it alerts the maritime community and the population in general to take care “both when preparing to go to sea and when they are at sea or in coastal areas”.
