“The problem is dramatic, it is a human rights problem, it is a problem of absolute cruelty and which must be resolved urgently”, highlighted Dulce Neto, during an intervention at the Advocatus Summit, organised by the newspaper ECO.
According to the newspaper, which quotes the president of the Supreme Administrative Court (STA), the number of requests for authorisation or renewal of the residence permit arriving at the Administrative Court of the Lisbon Circle has skyrocketed in recent months.
On March 31, 1,465 cases were pending, but the number now exceeds 3,200 cases and the situation is likely to worsen because, according to the Agency for Integration for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), they are about to be filed in court around 350 thousand processes.
Given the scenario, the judge advisor warns that the Lisbon Administrative Court runs the risk of “becoming absolutely congested and paralysed with this type of very urgent processes”.
The problem, worsened by the lack of human resources, must be “resolved upstream of the judiciary and through legislative measures”.
Brain dead ... Astonishing that 400,000 residents would not have an efficient renewal process and courts become jammed with litigation. Do the officials have rocks in their head? All of this was completely predictable given the migration patterns of the past 4 or 5 years. Hoping the new government can come up with a smart efficient solution.

My oh my…
I’m shocked by this article.
You cheeky upstart immigrants.
How dare you move to a new country that invited you and pay your taxes, work, buy a house, vehicles, sheep, support central Portugal by using the local shops putting kids in local a school and using local builders/mechanics etc
And now your at your wits end over what should be a staggeringly simple online application for a renewal of a residency permit…your going to the courts…
Such rudeness.
Haven’t you read that the government is ‘aware and monitoring’ the situation.
Stop this court foolishness at once; I’m sure after a few more months of golf and long lunch breaks the situation will then be ‘VERY Carefully Monitored’; so much better than just being aware.
:-/:-(

Please be aware of the migrants and asiel seekers, the ran from their own country to invade a new country and just ask for accommodation, money and not willing to work, they want rights the do not have in Africa !!!! As immigrants we paid millions to get residency in Portugal, work, pay tax, buy food, support restaurants. Please do not turn Portugal into Africa or South Africa.
