Motivations of Americans Investing Abroad

Get Golden Visa discovers why a rising percentage of Americans are looking overseas. The key reasons are a desired lifestyle, geopolitical stability, a favorable regulatory landscape, and diverse investment opportunities. The influence of climate change, as seen in natural disasters and severe financial losses, contributes to this trend.

Survey Results

A key aspect of our research comes from revisiting the survey from our prior report in 2021, "The Great American Exodus." Several participants identified climate change as a major issue in their decision to invest abroad. Our survey, which was conducted in 2024, also shows a substantial tendency for risk reduction by diversifying assets to more stable locations, especially in European countries such as Portugal, Spain, and Greece.

Participant Views

As we see the effects of climate change—increased severity of natural disasters and unpredictable weather patterns—the need for strong insurance solutions becomes clear. However, according to our research, homeowners in the United States are increasingly having difficulty obtaining property insurance. With insurers adjusting coverage against homeowners, more than 65% of American homeowners are at risk, stressing the need for alternative solutions for maintaining financial and housing stability.

Expert Insights

The report includes insights from industry leaders like Samuel Greenes, CEO of Blue Insurance, and Abid Salahi, Co-founder of FinlyWealth. They explain the critical necessity for collaborative approaches to addressing climate-related concerns. Greenes emphasizes that "climate change is fundamentally altering the landscape of homeownership and investment migration," needing innovative asset-protection strategies. Meanwhile, Salahi underlines the necessity of collaborating with legislators, insurers, and environmental specialists to establish long-term solutions.

A Vision for the Future of Investment Migration

Murat Coskun, Founder and Managing Partner of Get Golden Visa, addresses the broader consequences, citing a "significant transformation in global migration patterns driven by socio-economic shifts and environmental changes." This transformation will bring in a new generation of global citizens who are using mobility to secure their futures and explore new destinations.
