In a notice on the council website, the authorities state that “elevated levels of chlorates” were found in the water, considered to be by-products of disinfectants used in water treatment.
The water should not be used for drinking or cooling but can be used for washing surfaces and dishes and for flushing toilets.

Been in Portugal for 10 years,drank the water from day 1,not a problem.

I always drink tap water in Portugal, mostly in the Algarve.
