According to Jornal Económico, the food basket of 63 essential goods increased by 74 cents (up 0.32%) this week, now costing 228.47 euros. On 5 July 2023, buying the same basket cost 14.40 euros less (-6.73%), and on 6 July 2022, 21.68 euros less (-10.49%).
The price of a food basket containing 63 essential goods has increased by 21.68 euros over the last two years and now costs 228.47 euros, according to a weekly analysis carried out by Deco since the start of the war in Ukraine and the rise in inflation.
This week the basket increased by 74 cents (up 0.32%), meaning that on 5 July 2023, buying the same basket cost 14.40 euros less (-6.73%/214.07 euros), and on July 6, 2022, 21.68 euros less (-10.49%/206.79 euros).
Regarding the biggest increases in the price of products recorded between 5 July 2023 and 3 July 2024, the highlights were extra virgin olive oil (up 51%), fresh hake (up 28%), and tuna in olive oil (up 23%).
Between 23 February 2022 (the start of the war in Ukraine) and 3 July of this year, there is a difference of 44.84 euros when compared to the same basket on 4 July 2023 and 2024 (24.42%).
On the other hand, since the last day of exemption from Zero VAT on a food basket with 41 foods, on 4 January of this year, the basket of essential goods saw its price fall by 1.31 euros (minus 0.92%), from 141.97 euros to 140.67 euros, on 26 June.
